City Villa

Amsterdam (NL)

In the south district of Amsterdam a big notary house is being rebuild by a family that is making the house of their dreams. The new design is related to the shape of the former notary house. The 1000m² villa has a large kitchen, dining and living on the ground floor. In all of these family spaces there is a subtle balance between privacy and transparency. The spaces have a stunning relation with the garden which will be designed by Piet Oudolf.

The basement is transformed into a luscious bright space with outdoor patios located at the end of the swimming pool and the playing room. The natural sunlight transforms the basement in a fully usable and exciting place to be.

On the in-between floor the study is positioned in the double high void in the children bedrooms with private bathrooms are located on the 1st floor. The top floor has a fabulous master bedroom with beautiful views over Amsterdam.

In the materialization and detailing the house is refined and generous. Beautiful colored brick is combined with natural wood and large transparent openings. The refined brickwork relates to the local historic architecture.
